Supporting Communities and Protecting the Planet

Community Participation & Sustainability

At Dynamo we try to support local services and charities.  We have a Community Participation and Sustainability Strategy and Action plan.  We are a values based company and strive to support our local communities, small businesses and are passionate about the environment and supporting local environmental issues.  See what we have been getting up to below.

Dynamo Healthcare Training is our registered business name.

Lately, bees have been having a tough time. Between habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change messing with their homes, they’re struggling to survive. And that’s where we come in. By doing our bit to support bees, we’re not just helping them out – we’re helping ourselves too.

Our exams officer, Julia, has transformed her garden into a haven for bees, recognising their importance to our ecosystem. Julia and her partner, Mat, constructed a bee house specifically designed for solitary bees. Unlike bees in colonies, solitary bees operate independently without a queen. Despite their solitary nature, these bees play a crucial role in pollination, making them vital to our ecosystem. It’s so important that we care for and honour their presence.

In addition to the bee house, Julia has cultivated a variety of bee-friendly plants in her garden. Bees are particularly drawn to purple flowers and those resembling daisies, which offer easy access to nectar. Julia has planted Lavender, Purple Cape Daisies, Hebe ‘Blue Peter’, and Chives to attract and support these important pollinators.

If you encounter a tired bee in your garden, it’s best to leave it alone. Given time, it should recover and fly off when fully rested.

If you find a bee resting in a busy area like a road or pavement, it’s crucial to move her to safety to prevent her from getting harmed. When it’s safe, gently relocate her to grass, leaves, or a nearby bee-friendly flower. If that’s not possible, find a sheltered spot away from danger. If the bee remains on the ground after 45 minutes, it might be genuinely exhausted. In this case, gently place it on a bee-friendly flower to help it regain strength.

If no flowers are available, you can intervene by offering the revive-a-bee-solution.

Operation Revive-a-bee.

  1. Mix 1 tablespoon of water with 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar until it is dissolved.
  2. Place the dissolved sugar in the water in a shallow plate or a on spoon and place it on a garden table or stable surface near the exhausted bee.
  3. And thirdly, it’s crucial not to leave the sugar-water out in your garden for bees to drink. Instead, if you want to provide a drink for bees, use plain water in a bee drinking station. Sugar water fills bees up, preventing them from gathering pollen and harming their health. Plus, it hinders their ability to pollinate plants.

Dynamo work with Ecologi to be a ‘Climate Positive Workforce’. This means that Ecologi will work on sustainability projects across the globe to take out more CO2e from the atmosphere that our workforce put out.

As of June 2022, we have so far offset 158.67 tonnes of CO2, through projects such as protecting lowland peat forest in Indonesia to the first ever wind power project in Honduras. The CO2e that we have taken from the atmosphere is equivalent to 122 long haul flights, 476 metres2 of sea ice saved, or 393,660 miles driven in a car! This is a huge impact.

As well as these sustainability projects, we have so far planted 2,158 real trees in a forest in the following countries:

Mozambique – 401

Madagascar – 1,315

Uganda – 60

Kenya – 367

Ecuadorean – Andes 5

Morocco – 10

Next month we will be a whole year climate positive and to celebrate we will be planting our very own trees in Cornwall! Keep checking our website for updates on how it went!

As employees at Dynamo, we are entitled to 5 paid days a year that we can spend on charity work or volunteering. In July, some members of the team will be using one of their days to go planting trees in our local area. We also plan to go and do a beach clean in the summer, as we live so close to the coast!

The Dynamo team have fundraised for the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal after seeing the atrocities that have happened in Ukraine recently. So far, we have raised £275 for the appeal, and we will continue to support the cause in any way we can.

In December 2021, Dynamo raised money to fund the Cornwall Christmas Food box appeal. We contacted the team to collect food for our local community, and the results were amazing!

We had tables full of mince pies and Christmas Dinner ingredients, to make Christmas a bit more special for those less fortunate than us.

As a team, we managed to fill six large boxes with Christmas food and treats for families in Cornwall. These boxes were sent to a local foodbank, where they were distributed to families who are less fortunate, to make Christmas that little bit easier.

Dynamo regularly donate to local foodbanks in our community. As a team, we have fundraised to donate a range of items to CPR foodbank in Camborne, and often visit other community hubs. We realise how important the foodbanks and community centre’s are for the local people, and for some they are a life line.

Operation Christmas Child was an appeal by Samaritans Purse, to send shoeboxes filled with toys, hygiene products and clothes to those less fortunate who live abroad.

As a team, we raised money and brought in toys to fill twenty shoeboxes with goodies. This boxes were brought to St Uny School, where they were shipped to children all around the world.

We often promote awareness days within the organisation and also on Social Media.

Last year, for Breast Cancer Awareness Day, our team dressed in Pink to raise awareness for the cause, and made a donation!

It is great fun to dress up, but also raise awareness and money for important causes.
